Backmask Chainsaw Brainwash System / Perishable, 1993
The mode of thinking represented by the untitled work featured below involves a neo-surrealistic method of immediate artistic expression. The expression itself occurs for the sake of producing art without concern for any future implications involving form, function or the intrinsic attributes of such properties. Rather, pure enjoyment derived from a distinct, well-developed style within a ritualistically latent framework provided an immediate satisfaction during the creative process. Historically, the piece represents a transitory period of the artist's life during the cataclysmic Indian Summer of 1993. Its style reflects the detached focus of spontaneous aestheticism -- a reverse sensory transduction manifesting thematic cannibalism at the expense of deliberate subjective exploration, as it were.

The work also suggests a cross-modal hybridization correlating pencil media with pre-cubist expressive neo-surrealism before commercially graphic ink-display imposes art-deco parameters. The consequence implies an immediate necessity to counter-intuitively balance violent stylistic contrast with the inherent hyperactivity induced through a multiplicity of similar elements. Perhaps the clearest explanation concerning the artist's mental environment during the work approaches as the triad of grapheme collections reveals objective lexicality through semantic translation.

Collectively, the triad solicits a rhythmic vocal elaboration indicative of trance-state consciousness. Each individually considered lexeme then serves to elaborate qualitatively the nature of such mentality. For example, the symbolically suggestive "chainsaw" typifies an aggressive, mechanical instrument conferring implications of hostility, violence, and hatred upon the generalized spectator. Similar theoretical reasoning may extend to "brainwash" and "system" locutions with parallel effects within the mind-state analysis.

Retrospectively, any spontaneously expressive work becomes an insightful analytical exploration of the subconscious motives navigating the various symbolic dimensions throughout the creative process. In the case of the untitled piece in question, an intimate awareness of the artist's personal circumstances during the time of production as well as some degree of familiarity with his current situation enhances any subsequent meaning derived therein. Perhaps the most significant retrospective revelation erupts from the subject matter itself, which is emphasized over imagery conveyed through minimal media.

Without conscious realization of the symbolic function of each visual element, the artist produced three figures, with a multiplicity of intertwined limbs, which are socializing at a table and holding various objects. While the three gathered figures could theoretically represent any unambiguous collection of individuals, their respective faces announce the subconscious collective presence of estranged acquaintances. However, upon examination of the elaborately positioned limbs, the acquaintances suddenly become intimate friends, capable of greater influence and accomplishment when unified, as implied from the evolving number of limbs. The arms, then, tell of an embraced interpersonal familiarity fostering group success, tranquility, and contentment, as evidenced figuratively by the cigar, full, steaming cups, and casual facial expressions.

So it can be surmised that the artist created the work while harboring unresolved emotions for lost companionship and the fruits born therefrom. Finally, the work becomes self-actualized as the final connection between cause and effect, or dilemma and solution, occurs as the relative phrase iconography completes the presentation. With the artist announcing artistic purpose a priori through surrealistic metaphor, a simultaneous subconscious response manifests through suggestive language, indicating rage while concurrently providing essential, personalized therapy.
