After brief deliberations, we finally muster enough courage to face the free *appetizers -- after all, some greasy cheese eatin's is just what we need to wash down them bubblin' suds. Two of us wait for an opportunity and approach the appetizer table with casual hesitation. At this bipedal maneuver, several stares develop. I readily counter with a glance toward the widescreen : a reminder. The tray lid is lifted... -- and the aroma! "What are they?" I utter in their presence. Poking their middles, Nimbus laughs, "They're free." These quesadillas are really too much. No cheese, just a caked filling of ground meat, lukewarm and getting hard. Avoiding a stink scene, we nab some of these gems and walk them back to the ol' round table. Nimbus actually eats his turds, but I merely whip out the cam and snap a few lo-rez pix as evidence, for you, our reader.

*Achtung! Plate-shot and money-shot of the free appetizers, served
from 4:00pm 'til 7:00pm ( or something ), on that table over there.
Beef Quesadillas on a motherfuckin' mission.

Alright, groove is on : the art is flowing -- and the verbal waitress returns. Ouch. But, at least she was discrete in dropping the bill. Okay, one final round and we out. Overall, not a bad experience. The waitress was polite and as low-key as could have been expected reasonably, except for when she asked us if we were artists. Hmm. I don't know about that one. Anyway, she seemed genuinely enthused with our statements and even accepted to take a free DLa Halloween Special Issue to take home and share with the family. Thus, several hours after arriving at **Bob's Cafe, we gather our possessions and depart, feeling generally refreshed and inspired.

As we left, we noticed that the room's living population had increased some, although the atmosphere remained fairly mellow -- except for the country music rocking from the television sets. And finally, the prices were reasonable -- nothing to scream about, though Bob's does accept debit cards ( a real plus ). Overall, a chilling experience. We'll be back, I'm sure. Stupid.

( The Chuckwagon )

**Bob's menu items include 'The Chuckwagon' and 'The 18 Wheeler', which is really just a Chuckwagon without the cheese.
